Egypt takes over presidency of global audit body INTOSAI at Sharm El-Sheikh congress
Egypt has officially assumed the presidency of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) for a three-year term, as the XXV INCOSAI Congress opened on Tuesday in Sharm El-Sheikh under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The handover to Egypt’s Accountability State Authority (ASA) from Brazil took place during the opening session, attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, ministers, and senior officials. The event drew broad international participation from heads of audit institutions and global oversight bodies, reflecting growing international confidence in Egypt’s role in public auditing and financial governance.
ASA Chairman Mohamed El-Faisal Youssef said Egypt remains committed to INTOSAI’s founding values of independence, impartiality, and integrity, pledging to advance the global audit community’s contribution to transparency, sustainable development, and economic reform.
“With rapid technological change, audit institutions must move beyond post-event review to proactive foresight — becoming both preventive and diagnostic tools that support sound governance,” Youssef said in his address.
The Egyptian watchdog will lead INTOSAI at a critical global moment marked by fast-moving economic shifts and rising governance challenges. The presidency, the Egyptian Cabinet statement said, underscores Egypt’s growing influence in the international oversight landscape.
Since joining INTOSAI in 1963, the ASA has built a strong global profile, serving as external auditor for several UN agencies, including the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and, starting in 2026, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
Regionally, Egypt plays a leading role within African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI) and Arab Organisation for Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI), providing training, capacity building, and professional development for peer audit institutions across Africa and the Arab world. The ASA also serves as external auditor for the African Union, further cementing its standing as one of the region’s most trusted oversight bodies.
