Egypt’s Suez Canal raises navigation safety by 28% with dual-lane expansion – SCA
Egypt’s Suez Canal has improved navigation safety by 28 per cent and expanded dual-lane areas in the southern sector, enhancing flexibility in managing potential maritime emergencies, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) said Saturday.
The upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to modernise the canal’s services, including ship maintenance and repair, maritime ambulance, and rescue operations, and crew changes under both routine and emergency conditions.
The SCA has also advanced fleet modernisation and localised marine unit production, recently exporting two 90-ton tugboats to Italy’s Neri Group. Operational data for October showed a 16.3 per cent rise in net cargo and a 17.5 per cent increase in revenues compared with the same month last year.
The developments were discussed during a meeting between SCA Chairman Admiral Osama Rabie and Francesco Talo, Italy’s envoy for the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), where both sides explored joint cooperation and strategic integration.
