Egypt’s Cabinet on Wednesday approved a draft presidential decree ratifying a $4.3 million grant agreement with South Korea to fund green energy infrastructure projects in the Suez Canal.
The initiative aims to support Egypt’s green transition vision for the canal, transforming it into a sustainable and environmentally efficient waterway by 2030 while strengthening Egyptian–Korean cooperation.
Under the project, Egypt will develop infrastructure for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering station and an LNG training centre, alongside a long-term, low-carbon development strategy for the Suez Canal Authority. The programme is designed to increase LNG demand via LNG-powered vehicle ferries and ensure stable operation of the training centre, providing hands-on education and training with specialised equipment.
