Egypt’s Jan–Oct salt exports hit record, food council says
Egypt’s salt exports jumped 27 per cent in the first ten months of 2025, reaching $77 million, the Egyptian Food Export Council said Monday, citing strong international demand and expanding market access.
The council held a webinar reviewing global salt trends, highlighting Egypt’s rising share of the international market. Egypt ranked 14th globally among salt exporters in 2024, capturing 2.1 per cent of total exports, the council said.
Exports in the first ten months of 2025 surpassed the previous annual record of $76 million set in 2019, as well as total exports of $75 million in 2024. Growth was driven by strong demand in the United States, Ukraine, and key European and African markets.
The United States accounted for roughly a quarter of exports at $19 million, up 21 per cent from the same period last year, followed by Ukraine at $14 million, up 26 per cent. Other markets saw sharp increases, including Poland (91 per cent to $4.7 million), the Netherlands (207 per cent to $2 million), Côte d’Ivoire (142 per cent to $3.7 million), and Malawi (672 per cent to $1.6 million).
The council said Egypt’s full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) could further strengthen its position in African markets, particularly in West, Central, and Southern Africa.
