Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority rescues cargo ship crew after vessel lists off Port Said
Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority (SCA) successfully rescued all 12 crew members of the cargo ship FENER after it developed a 10-degree list off the northern entrance of the canal, the authority said Wednesday.
The ship was outside the canal’s navigational channel in the western waiting area north of Port Said when it issued a distress call late Tuesday, prompting an immediate response from SCA.
Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie said two tugboats and three marine launches were dispatched to evacuate the crew and stabilise the vessel.
“All crew members are in good health,” Rabie said, adding that one sailor who suffered a shoulder dislocation received medical treatment at a canal authority hospital.
He said its crisis management team is monitoring the situation continuously and is fully prepared for any further emergency measures.
The authority highlighted recent upgrades to navigational and logistical services, including marine ambulance support and crew replacement operations, aimed at enhancing safety and operational efficiency in both routine and emergency conditions.
The FENER is 122 metres long, with a 3.5-metre draft and a gross tonnage of 4,000 tons.
