Egypt, Eni discuss oil expansion, Cronos gas linkage

Egypt reviewed plans to double crude oil production and accelerate the connection of Cyprus’s Cronos natural gas field to Egyptian infrastructure during talks between Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy and a senior delegation from Italy’s Eni on Thursday.

Badawy told Eni officials that the government is prioritising the development of a business model that offers attractive investment incentives to boost upstream activity and increase crude output. He highlighted the importance of adopting non-traditional operating models and advanced technologies to achieve a substantial production rise.

The discussions also focused on progress in linking the Cronos gas field to Egyptian facilities, a move intended to strengthen Egypt’s role as a regional hub for energy trading and circulation.

The minister praised Eni’s cooperation across its Egyptian concessions, particularly its efforts to accelerate operations and bring new wells online to meet domestic energy demand.

Eni officials, in turn, expressed appreciation for the company’s long-standing strategic partnership and ongoing coordination with the ministry and Egyptian authorities.
