Egypt’s SCZONE grants 25-year concession for $55m smart truck management project

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has granted a 25-year concession to a consortium of Egytrans NOSCO and Nafith International to build advanced truck parking yards and an integrated traffic management system at Sokhna Port, the authority said Wednesday.

The usufruct project, with investments exceeding 1 billion Egyptian pounds ($55 million), aims to reduce congestion, streamline deliveries, and improve overall port efficiency.

The project will cover 167,000 square metres and is designed to streamline truck entry and exit, prevent congestion, and improve delivery scheduling. Equipped with digital scheduling and real-time traffic monitoring, the system is expected to handle 800 to 1,100 trucks daily, optimising port capacity and reducing transport delays and costs.

SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal Eldein said the project aligns with the state’s strategic vision to position Egyptian ports as global logistics hubs, with particular focus on Red Sea ports, led by Sokhna Port. He noted that Sokhna Port is undergoing an unprecedented transformation through major infrastructure and superstructure upgrades, new berth construction, capacity expansion, and the attraction of leading global operators.

The port, recently expanded to 23 kilometres of berths, also earned a Guinness World Record last December for having the deepest man-made onshore port basin, at 19 metres.

He added that the new integrated digital truck management system would cut waiting times, improve cargo handling, enhance the port’s competitiveness in global trade corridors, strengthen its role in international supply chains, and attract additional investment to Egypt’s transport and logistics sector.
