Egypt distributes EGP 344 million Eid bonus to 229,000 informal workers

Egypt’s Ministry of Labour said on Tuesday it would begin distributing 343.954 million Egyptian pounds in Eid al-Fitr bonuses to informal workers registered with the ministry’s database. The move is part of the state’s ongoing effort to expand social protection and support low-income households.

Each of the 229,303 eligible workers across 27 governorates will receive 1,500 pounds, with payments starting at 12:00 p.m. local time (10:00 GMT) through post office branches nationwide. The disbursement period will continue for one month, and payments will be made using national ID cards.

Labour Minister Hassan Raddad said the move follows directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to strengthen social protection for informal workers, provide health and social care, and ease financial burdens on them and their families, especially during religious holidays.

“This bonus is part of a broader social and health care package that supports informal workers and ensures a dignified standard of living for a segment of the workforce that contributes significantly to Egypt’s development,” Raddad said.

The ministry noted that the payments are funded from the central social and health care account for informal workers and encouraged beneficiaries to visit their nearest post office within the allocated period. The ministry also said it continues to expand its informal workers’ database and provide additional support to the sector.
