Egypt’s Housing, Industry Ministries team up to accelerate industrial development

Egypt’s ministries of Housing and Industry announced plans to enhance industrial zones and provide serviced land to manufacturers as part of a broader push to attract investment and boost domestic production.

Minister of Housing Randa El-Menshawy met with Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem to discuss joint efforts to develop industrial zones and improve infrastructure. The meeting included senior officials from the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), and the Industrial Development Authority (IDA), and other government bodies overseeing utilities and planning.

El-Menshawy said the initiative is part of a “clear vision to create industrial zones that are attractive to investors by providing ready-to-use land, facilitating allocation procedures, and removing obstacles that could impede business,” emphasising that infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater treatment, will meet high environmental and industrial standards.

Hashem highlighted the importance of efficient access to serviced land for manufacturers, noting that it supports Egypt’s long-term goals for sustainable industrial development and investment growth.

The ministers agreed to reactivate a joint committee responsible for allocating industrial land, focusing on investors’ operational scale and speed to maximise economic output. They also discussed requests from companies in New Borg El Arab Industrial City to increase building heights for factories, and reviewed the progress of utility projects in industrial zones across 10th of Ramadan, Sadat, and New Alamein cities.

The officials stressed that all factories must install preliminary wastewater treatment units before connecting to public networks, a step intended to protect treatment plants and ensure infrastructure sustainability.

The move is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to modernise its industrial base, streamline investment procedures, and strengthen domestic manufacturing in an effort to increase competitiveness and economic resilience.
