Egypt is stepping up preparations for its domestic wheat procurement season, with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Monday calling the programme a top state priority to ensure food security, the Cabinet said.
Madbouly stressed the need to expedite payments to farmers, recognising their role in supporting local wheat production, and directed authorities to ensure sufficient silo capacity while maintaining high standards for grain receipt and storage.
Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said the government is encouraging farmers to expand wheat cultivation, with funding allocated to procure local wheat from suppliers and farmers. He added that authorities are coordinating closely to ensure timely disbursement of payments, aiming to boost supply volumes.
Supply Minister Sherif Farouk said the ministry is fully prepared to receive the crop, with technical committees overseeing compliance with quality standards. Silos nationwide, including those operated by the Agricultural Bank of Egypt and the private sector, are ready to handle the harvest, he added.
Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk said the ministry continues to provide technical and advisory support to farmers throughout cultivation and harvesting. He highlighted the expanded use of high-yield certified seeds and increased field monitoring, alongside growth in wheat cultivation areas driven by government incentives for the strategic crop.
