Egypt’s annual inflation up to 13.5% in March – CAPMAS

Egypt’s annual inflation rose to 13.5 per cent in March 2026 from 11.5 per cent in February. The monthly inflation increased 3.3 per cent as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached 284.4 points, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics.

The rise was driven mainly by food prices, particularly vegetables, which surged 21.8 per cent, alongside increases in grains and bread (1.5 per cent), meat and poultry (5.9 per cent), fish and seafood (0.4 per cent), dairy, cheese and eggs (0.7 per cent), fruit (2.0 per cent), sugar and sugary foods (0.2 per cent), and other food products (0.8 per cent).

Transport costs climbed, with vehicle purchases up 3.3 per cent, private transport 8.7 per cent, and transport services 8.5 per cent, while hospital services increased 1.1 per cent. This came despite declines in medical products and equipment (1.7 per cent) and hotel services (0.2 per cent).

On a monthly basis, food and beverages rose 5.2 per cent, housing, electricity, and water utilities increased 3.6 per cent, transport jumped 8.0 per cent, restaurants and hotels rose 2.1 per cent, and miscellaneous goods and services increased 1.5 per cent.

On an annual basis, food prices rose 6.2 per cent, housing, electricity and water utilities surged 28.3 per cent, transport increased 29.3 per cent, healthcare rose 17.1 per cent, and education climbed 20.0 per cent.
