Egypt raises public sector wage bill in 2026/27 budget – FinMin

Egypt’s total cost of the latest public sector wage increase exceeds 100 billion Egyptian pounds and raises wage allocations in the state budget to 821 billion pounds, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said in a press conference on Saturday.

Kouchouk said the wage increase has been included in the new fiscal year budget and will be paid starting with July salaries.

He said the public wage bill is set to rise by about 21 per cent in the next fiscal year to ensure real income gains for state employees above inflation, adding that the government aims to link pay increases to improvements in the quality of basic public services.

The new package raises the minimum income for state employees to 8,000 pounds, he said.

Kouchouk said the government has approved a 12 per cent periodic bonus for employees covered by the Civil Service Law and 15 per cent for those not covered, in addition to a monthly incentive of 750 pounds for all employees, at a total cost of 77.5 billion pounds.

He added that teachers will receive a 1,000-pound monthly “additional teaching incentive” starting from the new academic year, along with a 2,000-pound incentive for outstanding school management, with total cost estimated at 14 billion pounds.

Medical sector workers will also receive a 750-pound monthly increase, while night shift and overnight duty allowances will rise by 25 per cent starting July 1, at a cost of 8.5 billion pounds.

He said the package will benefit about one million teachers in general and Al-Azhar education, as well as 640,000 workers in the medical sector.
