Egypt’s Suez Canal zone signs $6.5 million Turkish textile project in West Qantara

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) said on Thursday it signed an agreement with Türkiye’s Atesan Tekstil for a $6.5 million textile project in West Qantara.

The project will produce woven fabrics and is expected to create about 200 direct jobs, the SCZONE said. It will be developed on a 20,000-square-metre site in the West Qantara Industrial Zone.

West Qantara has evolved into a hub for textiles, ready-made garments, and food industries, alongside logistics and services, SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien said.

He said each new investment helps reduce imports, boost exports, and meet domestic and regional demand, adding that the authority closely monitors project implementation and excludes investors that fail to meet contractual obligations.

The number of projects in West Qantara has reached 52 across industrial, service, and logistics sectors, with total investments of $1.53 billion, he said. The projects span more than 3.54 million square metres and are expected to generate about 72,000 direct jobs.
