Egypt secures EU carbon certification to support exports

Egypt has secured European accreditation recognition for carbon footprint certification, a move aimed at supporting exports to the European Union and expanding its role in emissions-related services, the Ministry of Industry said on Saturday.

The National Accreditation Council (NAC), affiliated with the ministry, said its recognition from the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA) has been extended to cover certification and verification bodies for carbon footprint standards under ISO 14067.

The update has been reflected on international accreditation platforms, according to the statement.

NAC Executive Director Mohamed Hassan said the step is part of efforts to expand the council’s international standing and strengthen capabilities to measure and reduce carbon emissions.

He said the move is expected to support Egyptian exports to EU markets and position Egypt as a regional centre for carbon emissions certification and trading.

The council operates across 13 accreditation fields for conformity assessment bodies. It holds international recognition from organizations such as the African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC), the Arab Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC), and various European accreditation frameworks.
