Egypt’s food exports hit 237,000 tons in a week – NFSA

Egypt exported 237,000 tons of food products in the week ending 24 April, with citrus fruits and potatoes leading shipments, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said on Sunday.

A total of 4,149 export consignments were shipped by 1,512 companies, covering about 760 food products, including fruits, vegetables, grains, and processed foods, according to the authority’s weekly report.

Fruit exports reached 81,000 tons across 39 varieties, including 60,000 tons of citrus, 15,000 tons of strawberries, and 6,000 tons of other fruits.

Vegetable exports totalled 52,000 tons across 46 varieties, including 20,000 tons of potatoes, 9,000 tons of sweet potatoes, and 5,000 tons of other vegetables.

Saudi Arabia was the largest importer of Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by the United States, Syria, the Netherlands, and Sudan, among a total of 192 destination markets, the authority said.
