Egypt’s PM reviews global economic outlook, IMF, World Bank meeting outcomes

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met with Planning Minister Ahmed Rostom on Monday to review regional geopolitical risks, global economic trends, and the country’s participation in the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings.

Rostom said global economic growth is expected to slow to 3.1 per cent in 2026, compared with 3.4 per cent in 2025, while inflation is projected to rise to 4.4 per cent. He added that global trade growth is forecast to ease to 2.8 per cent from 5.1 per cent.

He also highlighted discussions held during Egypt’s participation in the IMF and World Bank meetings, including consultations on new financing tools to address geopolitical spillovers and stressed the importance of accelerating the transition to a green economy and renewable energy.

Domestically, Rostom reviewed progress on Egypt’s economic and social development plan, saying efforts are underway to integrate planning and finance systems to improve spending oversight and enhance coordination between investment and operational budgets.
