Sisi meets Hiroshima University head as Egypt deepens Japan education ties

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met Hiroshima University President Mitsuo Ochi on Sunday as Egypt looks to expand cooperation with Japan to modernise its education system and better align graduates with labour market demands.

The talks, attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif, and Ambassador IWAI Fumio, focused on strengthening partnerships in both basic and higher education, building on long-standing ties between Cairo and Tokyo.

Egypt is increasingly turning to international collaboration as it seeks to upgrade curricula and integrate technology into classrooms, with artificial intelligence and digital learning tools becoming central to its education reform agenda, according to a statement from the presidency.

Sisi highlighted the importance of expanding the use of advanced technologies to enhance the quality of education and equip students with skills tailored to the evolving needs of the labour market.

Ochi said Hiroshima University is committed to deepening cooperation with Egypt, and praised ongoing efforts to modernise teaching methods and expand the use of innovative learning approaches.

The meeting underscores Egypt’s broader efforts to leverage global academic partnerships to support human capital development, a key pillar of its long-term economic reform programme.
