Egypt extends use of unused funds in EGP50 bln tourism financing scheme

Egypt’s Cabinet on Wednesday approved the use of remaining funds from a 50 billion-pound tourism financing programme and reopened limited exemptions under the scheme as part of efforts to expand hotel capacity in key governorates.

The decision allows unused funds from the Central Bank of Egypt-backed programme to continue financing tourism companies investing in hotel expansion in designated areas, after the original application window closed on 20 April, 2026.

The Cabinet also approved reopening the central bank’s registration platform to receive exemption requests for projects exceeding the programme’s financing cap of 2 billion pounds per client and related entities.

Exemptions will apply only to projects deemed strategically important by the ministers of tourism and finance, according to the statement.

The finance ministry will notify the central bank by official letter of approved cases for processing under the programme’s terms and conditions.
