Egypt’s East Nile Monorail to begin operations on 6 May

Egypt will launch Phase One of the East Nile Monorail, connecting New Cairo to the New Administrative Capital. The service began operating on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, running daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The first phase covers the stretch from El-Masher Tantawi Station to Justice City Station in the New Administrative Capital, spanning 16 stations: El-Masher Tantawi, One Ninety, Air Force Hospital, El-Narges, El-Mostathmereen, El-Lotus, Golden Square, Beit El-Watan, Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque, R1 District, R2 District, Finance & Business District, City of Arts & Culture, Government District, Masr Mosque, and Justice City.

Each of the 16 stations has been built to modern standards and equipped with escalators, fixed staircases, and elevators both inside and outside. Dedicated accessible pathways for people with disabilities have been installed in ticketing halls and on platforms across all stations. The line also offers a direct interchange with the Light Rail Transit (LRT) network via the City of Arts & Culture Station.

The monorail trains are fully air-conditioned and feature safe passageways between carriages. Onboard LCD screens provide passengers with real-time trip information, while screens above the doors display the final destination before boarding. Wheelchair spaces with securing fixtures have been provided for passengers with special needs, and illuminated route maps above interior doors are available to assist hearing-impaired passengers. Trains are also equipped with CCTV cameras for central track monitoring.
