Egypt signs Borg El Arab dry port deal with Sky Ports

Egypt’s Ministry of Transport signed a memorandum of understanding with Sky Ports on Monday to develop a dry port and logistics zone in Borg El Arab on a 133-feddan site.

El-Wazir said the project forms part of Egypt’s broader strategy to develop 33 dry ports and logistics zones and seven integrated logistics corridors nationwide.

He added that the Borg El Arab project will support the city’s industrial zone, facilitate trade and exports, ease congestion at seaports, improve logistics services, and lower freight transport costs. He added that the project is a key part of the Cairo–Alexandria logistics corridor linking production areas with Red Sea and Mediterranean seaports.

The minister said the logistics centre will improve customs clearance efficiency, expand rail freight transport, reduce road accidents, and create jobs.

Sky Ports said the project builds on its logistics and port management experience and aims to develop an integrated logistics model that meets international standards.

Founded in 2015, Sky Ports became the first Egyptian operator to secure a concession for a multi-purpose terminal at East Port Said Port under Law No. 165 of 2022. The company has handled more than 12 million tons of cargo since February 2024 and currently holds a 12 per cent share of the dry bulk market.
