Egypt wins market access in Latin America for oranges, grapes, strawberry seedlings
Egypt has secured new export approvals in Peru, Mexico, and Panama for oranges, grapes, and strawberry seedlings as the government seeks to boost foreign-currency earnings, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Monday.
The ministry said Peru approved imports of Egyptian oranges, while Panama opened its market to Egyptian grapes and strawberry seedlings. Mexico also cleared Egyptian strawberry seedlings for entry.
The approvals followed technical talks between Egypt’s agricultural quarantine authority and officials in the three countries.
Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk said the expansion supports Egypt’s broader strategy to increase export revenues and foreign-currency inflows at a time when the country is seeking to strengthen external balances.
Mohamed El-Mansi, head of Egypt’s Central Administration of Plant Quarantine (CAPQ), said authorities were finalising export procedures after receiving the importing countries’ phytosanitary requirements.
Egypt has increasingly positioned agricultural exports as a key source of foreign exchange, alongside tourism, remittances, and Suez Canal revenues. The government has been working to expand market access for Egyptian produce globally, as authorities seek to meet stricter international quality and phytosanitary standards.
