Egypt’s natural gas vehicles company Cargas is exploring expansion into Nigeria through compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure and vehicle conversion projects, as Cairo aims to export its expertise in cleaner transport fuels across Africa.
A Cargas delegation visited Nigeria to discuss participation in the country’s initiative to expand CNG use and share Egypt’s experience in converting vehicles and buses to run on natural gas.
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo said during the visit that his country is seeking to benefit from Egypt’s expertise in vehicle conversion as part of its presidential CNG Initiative to expand natural gas use in transportation.
The Cargas delegation also held meetings with several Nigerian government bodies and institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Presidential CNG Initiative (PI-CNG), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).
Discussions covered cooperation on developing CNG station infrastructure, establishing vehicle conversion centres, local manufacturing of CNG-related components, and training technical personnel.
Egypt has increasingly sought to expand regional cooperation in natural gas applications and promote its expertise in vehicle conversion and cleaner fuel technologies.
