Egypt renews accreditation of gold testing laboratories through 2030

Egypt’s Assay and Weights Authority has renewed the international accreditation of its central calibration and testing laboratories under the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, extending certification through 12 June 2030, the authority said on Tuesday.

The accreditation covers calibration of selected masses and balances, as well as testing and verification of gold purity in bars and jewellery.

The authority said the laboratories use energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (ED XRF) technology to analyse precious metals.

The renewal forms part of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade’s efforts to maintain internationally recognised standards in testing, calibration and verification services for the precious metals sector, according to the authority.

The authority further noted that maintaining international accreditation reflects its commitment to quality, technical precision, and neutrality, reinforcing its position as a national body responsible for assaying and testing jewellery and precious metals, as well as calibrating measuring instruments.
