Egypt’s Sisi reviews industrial strategy through 2030

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reviewed progress on the implementation of the country’s National Industrial Strategy 2026-2030 on Monday, including plans to raise non-oil exports to $100 billion by 2030 and expand local manufacturing.

Industry Minister Khaled Hashem outlined a strategy developed with the private sector aimed at increasing non-oil exports through regulatory reforms, industrial development programmes, support for small and medium-sized enterprises and investment in priority manufacturing sectors.

The strategy focuses on industries including textiles and garments, food processing, pharmaceuticals, automotive manufacturing and engineering industries.

Sisi called for clear implementation timelines and deeper integration into global production chains to strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional manufacturing hub.

The meeting also reviewed plans to expand local automotive manufacturing through technology transfer, increased local component production, investment attraction and electric vehicle production.

Officials also discussed plans to develop the steel industry by strengthening domestic supply chains and reducing reliance on imports, alongside updates on industrial zones and the Shams El-Senaa initiative to install rooftop solar systems at around 7,000 factories.

The meeting also reviewed an African industrial integration initiative aligned with Africa Agenda 2063, aimed at expanding trade and industrial partnerships across the continent.

Sisi called for faster digitalisation, stronger private-sector participation, the removal of investment obstacles and expanded vocational training to support industrial growth.
