Egypt’s power load hits record 40,200 MW

Egypt’s national electricity grid recorded an unprecedented peak load of 40,200 megawatts on Wednesday, up 200 megawatts from the previous record of 40,000 megawatts registered a day earlier, as a heatwave continued to drive up electricity consumption.

The unified grid successfully accommodated the higher demand across all governorates while maintaining stable electricity supplies and uninterrupted service across different voltage levels and uses.

The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy said it had raised preparedness levels across the generation, transmission and distribution segments and was monitoring measures to address the ongoing severe heatwave.

The ministry and its affiliated companies have also increased support, monitoring and maintenance teams, as well as occupational safety and health crews, while expanding inspection committees to safeguard grid stability and ensure the continuity of electricity supplies.

Customer service centres have meanwhile extended working hours and strengthened complaint and reporting systems with additional staff to improve response times and communication with subscribers.
