Egypt moves Prophet Muhammad’s birthday holiday to 27 August
Egypt will observe a public holiday on Thursday, 27 August, to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, instead of the originally scheduled holiday on Tuesday, 25 August 25, the prime minister’s office said.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly issued a decision declaring 27 August a paid holiday for employees of ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public-sector companies, and state-owned business-sector companies.
The holiday marks the Prophet’s birthday, known as Mawlid al-Nabawi, which falls on 25 August this year under the Islamic calendar.
