Egypt’s food exports hit 230,000 tons in one week – NFSA

Egypt exported around 230,000 tons of food products in 3,700 consignments during the week ended 11 September, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said on Sunday.

The shipments were handled by 1,424 exporting companies and covered around 720 food products, including vegetables and tubers, white sugar, fruits, preserved fruit and vegetable products, and other food items, according to the NFSA’s weekly report.

Vegetable exports totalled 50,000 tons across 37 product types, led by potatoes with 18,000 tons, followed by onions at 14,000 tons, and beans at 5,000 tons.

Fruit exports reached 30,000 tons across 30 product types, with mangoes accounting for 8,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 7,000 tons, and pomegranates at 5,000 tons.

Sudan and Syria were the top destinations for Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Italy, the NFSA said.

Egypt exported food products to 163 countries during the week.
