Egypt has proposed preparing an Arab map of priority logistics corridors to strengthen transport connectivity and facilitate trade between Arab countries, Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the 39th session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers in Alexandria, El-Wazir said the proposed map would be developed in coordination with member states and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
The map would cover existing transport networks, proposed projects, and connectivity points between countries, while identifying the technical, operational, and regulatory requirements needed to improve integration.
It would also assess projects based on trade volumes, port and border-crossing capacities, economic feasibility, transport costs, and their contribution to connectivity between Arab countries.
El-Wazir also proposed studying priority connectivity projects, identifying their implementation requirements, and establishing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to direct investments towards projects offering the greatest shared benefits.
He said the initiatives aim to complete missing transport links, maximise the use of existing networks, improve operational efficiency, and develop a more integrated and flexible Arab transport system.
