Egypt’s Suez Canal has witnessed on Sunday the return of EVERGREEN shipping line after nearly three years, with the mega container ship EVER EON making its first transit through the waterway on Sunday, Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie said.
The vessel, sailing from the Netherlands to Singapore as part of the northbound convoy, is 369 metres long and 53.6 metres wide, with a total tonnage of 185,000 tonnes and a capacity of 16,556 containers.
EVER EON operates under the NEU 7 service, run by the Ocean Alliance, which connects major ports along the trade route between the Far East and north-western Europe.
Rabie said the return of EVER GREEN reflects a positive outlook for the recovery of global trade flows between East and West, adding that the shipping line plans to resume more voyages through the canal in the coming period.
The line had suspended its transits for nearly three years following the outbreak of the Red Sea crisis.
Rabie added that the Suez Canal has regained several shipping services operated by major international carriers serving the Europe-Asia trade route, including CMA CGM, Maersk, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, COSCO, and EVER GREEN.
