A low-ranking police officer was injured early Saturday in North Sinai’s Al-Arish when unknown assailants opened fired at him less than 24 hours after a deadly attack on an army unit in the restive governorate, Ahram Arabic website reported.
The policeman, 28, sustained injuries in his left leg and was transported to the hospital.
On Friday, 31 army personnel died in two separate terrorist attacks in the North Sinai.
Also, on Friday evening, a policeman was shot dead by unknown assailants in Sharqiya Governorate in the easter Nile Delta.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced a three-months state of emergency in parts of the governorate accompanied by an overnight curfew – 5PM to 7AM.
A three-day national mourning was also declared.
