Romania eyes $1bln Trade Exchange with Egypt at end- 2015 – Ambassador

Romania is targeting increasing its volume of trade exchange with Egypt to hit US$1 billion by the end of 2015, Bucharest’s ambassador in Cairo Cornel Alecse said on Saturday.

The ambassador’s remarks made during a meeting held in the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association (EBA)’s headquarters on Saturday.

Egypt’s exports to Romania have witnessed a 50% increase in 2014, Alecse said, pointing out to considerable diversity in exports and imports between the two countries to include sectors of food commodities, grains, vegetables, clothes, chemicals, tires, and furniture.

The ambassador asserted that there are significant opportunities for bilateral cooperation between Cairo and Bucharest, in fields of medical tourism, infrastructure, grains, construction, energy, river and land transport, and railway.

Roman was among EU countries to achieve significant economic growth up to 2.8% in 2014, Alecse said.

On the other side, Hassan El Shafei- EBA’s Chairman- has suggested organising a delegation encompassing a number of Egyptian businessmen to visit Romania in a business trip before the end of 2015. This delegation will aim to highlight mutual investment opportunities and enhancing economic as well as commercial cooperation between Egyptian and Romanian businessmen.
