Luxor Attack undermines Egypt’s Stability and Economic Development – EU

The European Union External Action Service (EEAS) has issued a statement late Wednesday condemning the attempted suicide attack at the Temple of Karnak in Luxor, Egypt.

“This kind of violence targeting security and police, but also civilians and tourism, aims at undermining Egypt’s stability and economic development.” EEAS’ spokesperson Catherine Ray said in a statement.

Five people, including two police officers, were hurt when three men reportedly approached a barrier at the temple entrance and were confronted by police.

One of the men detonated an explosive belt. A second man was shot dead and the third was seriously injured. No tourists were hurt.

“We must stand united in our common fight against terrorism.” The spokesperson added.

The EU will keep supporting Egypt’s efforts to tackle violent extremism and prevent new attacks. We extend our sympathies to those wounded.
