Egyptian imports of consumer durable goods dropped by 8 percent in January-May 2016 to 15 billion Egyptian pounds (US$1.6 billion) from 16.3 billion pounds at the same period of 2015.
According to state’s foreign trade statistics, imports of consumer durable goods declined in May 2016 by 19.8 percent to 2.7 billion pounds opposed to 3.4 billion pounds in May 2015.
Egyptian imports of refrigerators decreased during the first five months of 2016 to record around 451.1 million pounds versus 665 million pounds a year earlier, marking a 32.1 percent drop.
Meanwhile, state’s refrigerators imports sagged in May 2016 to 77.1 million pounds compared to 141.7 million pounds in May 2015, the statistic showed.
Egyptian imports of washing machines recorded 268.5 million pounds in January-May 2016 opposed to 432.4 million at the same period of 2015, registering 37.9 percent drop.
In May 2016, refrigerators imports fell to 12 million pounds versus 114.5 million pounds in May 2015.
On other side, Egyptian furniture imports rose by 20.3 percent in January-May 2016 to 662.7 million pounds from 551 million pounds a year earlier. Meanwhile, furniture imports dropped in May 2016 from 117.7 million pounds to 85.5 million pounds.
