The committee supervising the Egyptian press syndicate’s electoral process has decided on Friday to postpone the syndicate’s general assembly to 17 March due to the lack of a quorum.
The general assembly was set to witness the election of a new syndicate head and six board members.
Seven journalists, including syndicate head Yehia Kalash, are competing for the top post, while around 70 others are seeking posts in the syndicate’s council.
The syndicate has around 10,000 members with full voting rights, half of whom must be present for the general assembly to take place
Only 1,300 journalists of the required 4,300 were present on Friday.
At least 25 percent of members must be present on 17 March for the assembly to convene.
