Egypt’s North Sinai governor says situation improving

Major General al-Sayyed Harhour, the North Sinai governor, said the security situation in the province is improving, thanks to the efforts of the Armed Forces, the police and heightened citizen awareness.

Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, the governor said: “Everyone is united…the police, the army and the people. And that’s the target to remain united even in the face of challenges or dangers.”

He added that the ongoing terrorism aims to “dismantle” Egypt so that there would no longer be an Egypt. This will never happen, he asserted, as Egypt is blessed by God and protected by its people and the army.

He mentioned the bloodshed in Sinai, saying that any police or armed forces personnel or people who died were sacrificed for the sake of protecting Egypt from danger.

The governor said the political leadership is focussing on developing several regions in North Sinai in all fields, particularly infrastructure. He added that once terrorism is eliminated in the province, it will attract investors  in several fields as it used to.

A new drinking water network will be established in al-Arish city to prompt investments into the city. He added that 30 percent of the water in the governorate is wasted due to deteriorated and illegal networks

The Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, approved industrial zones in North Sinai to be handled like those in Upper Egypt.

Land in these zones will be allocated to investors for free in order to attract investments.
