Egypt’s Azhar strongly condemns deadly hostage-taking attack in France

Egypt’s Al-Azhar strongly condemned a deadly hostage-taking incident in southern France on Friday, a statement by the world’s largest Sunni institution reads.

On Friday morning, an armed man took a number of people hostage in a supermarket in the small town of Trebes near Toulouse, killing three people and injuring about a dozen others before shot being dead by police, Reuters reported.

“Targeting and killing innocents, taking them as hostages, and terrorising people are cowardly acts and despicable crimes that are rejected by all religions and human principles,” Al-Azhar said in its statement.

Al-Azhar extended its condolences to the people and the government of France, and to the families of the injured, wishing them speedy recovery.
