Empower women, allow Africa to fly with both wings: SDG 5 ambassador
Releasing the power of women in Africa is a necessity so the continent could grow and “fly with both wings”, said Maggie Kigozi, ambassador of the UN’s fifth sustainable development goal (SDG).
“We need to release the power of the 51 percent of Africa’s population …, women need to catch up,” said Kigozi at one of the Women Empowering Africa panel sessions at Africa 2018 Forum taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh on December 8-9.
The session tackled a platform to envisage a truly effective pro-women policy agenda in Africa, one that translates policies into meaningful change with tangible outcomes for the women in the continent.
Women Empowering Africa sessions held discussions on Saturday to define priority areas and look at what it needs to be done more to ensure more women become part of shaping the continent’s economic and political agenda and its future. Discussions also included ways to define how to bring all women onboard together.
