Egypt’s trade with Malaysia, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Singapore rose 41.2 percent to 342.5 billion Egyptian pounds ($19.1 billion) in 2017 from 201.3 billion in 2016.
Egyptian exports to Southeast Asian countries grew 126 percent to 41.8 billion pounds last year against 18.5 billion pounds a year earlier, Egypt’s state-owned statics agency CAPMSA said in its annual bulletin on Wednesday.
“The volume of Egypt’s imports from Southeast Asian countries increased 64.5 percent to 300.7 billion pounds, compared with 182.8 billion,” the bulletin said.
India is in the first position to import from Egypt, followed by China. The Egyptian exports to India jumped 147.8 percent to 16 billion pounds, versus 6.5 billion pounds.
Meanwhile, Egyptian exports to China climbed 148.2 percent to 12.4 billion pounds, compared with 5.0 billion.
The Egyptian most important exports to China and India included crude oil.
China ranked first in terms of importing from Egypt to record 144.2 billion from 90.2 billion pounds, making a 60.8 percent increase. The most important imports included electrical equipment.
India also ranked second in terms of importing from Egypt to register 41.6 billion, compared to 21.9 billion, with an 89.9 percent surge.
