UAE’s Metito to finalise Port Said desalination plant in Egypt year-end

Metito, UAE-based water and wastewater project developer, plans to complete a desalination plant in the Egyptian city of Port Said city at the end of the year.

The plant will be with investments worth $130 million, with a capacity of 150,000 cubic metres, Metito’s managing director Karim Madwar told Amwal Al Ghad on Wednesday.

“The plant’s current capacity could be increased to 30,000 cubic metres in the future to fill the water demands in Port Said in the coming years,” Madwar said.

The company also looks to finalise a new waste water treatment plant in New Alamein City, northeast of Cairo, within a two-year timeframe in cooperation with Orascom Construction, he added.

“The plant will be operational by 2021,” Madwar said, adding that the project’s investment cost approaches 1.8 billion Egyptian pounds ($108.25 million).
