Egypt’s SODIC HQ to be 95% solar-powered by 2020

Egypt’s property developer SODIC said on Wednesday its headquarters, located in Polygon Business Park in Sheikh Zayed City, will be almost fully-powered by solar energy within 2020.

SODIC is currently installing solar-powered parking sheds in Westown Hub in Giza governorate to provide shade for Westown’s visitors and generate renewable energy for the company’s headquarters.

Solar powered parking sheds are planned to generate clean energy to cover 95 percent of SODIC’s headquarters needs.

Launched in April 2015, Westown Hub is directly adjacent to Polygon Business Park over 50,000 square metres. It is currently host to about a dozen operational tenants that more scheduled to open soon.

The commercial mall is home to some of Sheikh Zayed’s finest restaurants and cafes, all set amongst pedestrian, tree-lined squares, and fountains.

The project is being implemented in cooperation with the state-owned Industrial Modernisation Centre (IMC) and Egypt-PV, a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) initiative, to promote grid-connected small scale photovoltaic systems in industrial, public buildings, hospitality, commercial, and residential sectors across Egypt, the statement concluded.
