Egypt’s Zohr gas field output triples to 11.3 bcm in H1 – Rosneft

Natural gas production at Egypt’s Zohr, the largest gas field in the Mediterranean Sea, has more than tripled in the first half of the year, Russian energy giant Rosneft announced on Wednesday.

The output stood at to 11.3 billion cubic metres (bcm), Rosneft said.

“In H1 2019, the production on the field amounted to 11.3 bcm of gas, which is 3.6 times more than in the same period last year.” Rosneft said in a statement.

Rosneft bought a 30 percent stake in the project from Italy’s Eni in 2017. The field is an important asset for Kremlin-controlled Rosneft in its global expansion strategy and natural gas production programme.

The daily gas output at the offshore project would reach 76 million cubic metres (2.7 billion cubic feet) by the end of the year from 68 million cubic metres currently, the company added.

“After the field’s start-up in December 2017, its development is going ahead of schedule,”

Italian giant Eni controls 50 percent of the project, while BP and Mubadala Petroleum each have a 10 percent stake in Zohr.
