Egypt’s Minister of Labour Mohamed Gobran announced on Sunday that ADES Holding has begun disbursing compensation to the families of the deceased, missing, and injured workers involved in the recent sinking of the marine barge Admarine 12 in the Gulf of Suez near Gebel El-Zeit, Red Sea.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Labour, the company is implementing a comprehensive set of support measures in coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Labour.
The plan includes financial support of 5 million Egyptian pounds for each family of the deceased or missing, regardless of whether the worker was employed by the company or another party. This amount will be disbursed once the required legal procedures are completed. Additionally, families will receive immediate financial assistance to meet urgent needs pending the completion of legal steps.
ADES also committed to continuing the payment of the monthly salaries of deceased employees until the notional retirement age of 60, including annual raises and benefits. First-degree relatives will retain access to medical insurance under current coverage levels until the same age threshold.
Survivors of the incident, regardless of whether employed by ADES or other firms, will receive the equivalent of six months’ salary as well as psychological support. The company is also coordinating with other affected employers to ensure equitable compensation packages and is pledging to ensure continuity of salary payments for all deceased workers under the same terms.
Medical care for the injured will be fully covered, including treatment abroad if necessary, with ADES covering travel and accommodation for accompanying family members. The company also committed to supporting long-term physical or health impacts without disrupting the employment path of affected workers.
ADES is engaging directly with the families through the relevant authorities and legal departments to facilitate all required legal procedures for compensation delivery.
