Battle Of The Camel Trial Adjourned To October 8th

Giza Criminal Court postponed the case of killing protestors in the “Battle of the Camel” on February 2nd and 3rd 2011 to tomorrow as the advocacy of the defendants will be resumed.

On Sunday’s session, Ragab Hemeda, the 16th defendant, defended himself by saying how he has long fought against the former regime. He claimed that the prosecution’s first witness, General Fouad Allam, had supervised his torture in the prison.

Hemeda then claimed that he was brought out of the parliament by some of the former regime’s leaders. He said he was in his office in Bab Alouq at the time of the battle with some of the opposition leaders. He affirmed that he met Safwat El-Sherif, another defendant in the case, two times only.

The Battle of the Camel took place at the height of the January 25 Revolution. Pro-Mubarak thugs stormed Tahrir Square on camels and horses, killing 11 protesters and injuring more than 2000.
