Court Ended First Trial of Al Dostour’s Islam Afefy

Judge Mohamed Fahim Darwish, Giza Criminal Court, decided to end the first session of trialing Al Dostour Editor-in-Chief; objecting on the chaos in the court room and the chants.

The editor-in-chief, Islam Afefy, came to the court this morning and asserted that he was surprised by referring him to the criminal court for unknown accusations, as he wasn’t informed by the prosecution in order to investigate with him. He said President Morsi should abandon Muslim Brotherhood, and to be a president for all Egyptians.

A large number of journalists of Al Dostour and other newspapers showed solidarity with Islam Afefy. Many journalists and lawyers attended the trial, Dr Shawky Al Sayed, Assem Kandil, Adel Abdel Haye and Reda Musalem, the counselor of the newspaper, as well as Sayed Abou Zaed, lawyer of journalists syndicate. The foreign and Arab channels’ filled the court room.

The state security prosecution, headed by Judge Hesham Badawe, had referred the case to the criminal court after investigating some complaints filed by citizens, accusing Islam Afefy of insulting the president and publishing false news.
