Egypt new coronavirus cases on the rise again, recording 610 cases on Wednesday

Egypt reported 610 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday bringing the total infection tally to 171,290 since the outbreak began in February.

The health ministry also reported 53 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 9,804.

The statement said that 233 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 133,331.

Egypt has started its vaccination campaign against coronavirus using the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine late January by inoculating hundreds of medical workers at quarantine hospitals.

Beijing’s Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang said in February that China will provide Egypt with 300,000 doses of its Sinopharm vaccine “soon”.

Egypt also received 50,000 doses as a first batch of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine from the British-Swedish company’s branch in India late in January.
