Egypt prioritises renewable energy for development – minister
Electric power is a top priority for Egypt, essential for development across various sectors, stated Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat.
He highlighted Egypt’s rich natural resources, particularly wind and solar energy, noting legislative amendments to facilitate investment in renewable energy projects as part of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Energy Strategy 2040.
This statement came during his meeting with Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, Theodoros Skylakakis, to discuss the Greece-Egypt electrical interconnection (GREGY) project.
Both governments support this initiative, which aims to enhance cooperation in electricity, renewable energy, and green hydrogen.
The project is part of the broader European-African interconnection initiative, focusing on strengthening energy security and facilitating the exchange of clean electricity.
The discussions emphasised the importance of private sector involvement in clean energy projects while promoting policies to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
