Egypt, Saudi Arabia work to ease truck congestion at Port of NEOM

Egypt is working with Saudi Arabia to ease congestion affecting Egyptian trucks at the Port of NEOM (Duba) after processing delays left drivers stranded for several days and facing overstay fines, Egypt’s Land Transport Regulatory Authority said on Sunday.

The authority said it had contacted Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport, the Port of NEOM management and shipping agents operating the Safaga–NEOM Route to assess the disruption and coordinate efforts to resolve it.

According to the authority, processing delays caused trucks to queue outside the port for several days, leaving drivers with limited access to basic services and exposing them to overstay fines despite the delays being beyond their control.

Egypt has asked Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA) to allow Egyptian trucks into the port’s designated waiting areas, waive overstay fines resulting from the delays and accelerate processing procedures to reduce waiting times.

The Saudi authority said it understood the concerns and would urgently review the issue, take the necessary measures and inform the Egyptian side of the outcome, according to the statement.

Egypt’s Land Transport Regulatory Authority said it would continue to coordinate with the relevant authorities in both countries to resolve the congestion, facilitate cross-border freight movement and minimize disruptions to transport operators using the Safaga–Neom route.
