The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy signed on Wednesday an agreement to establish a 500-megawatt wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez. Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly witnessed the signing, along with Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat.
Under the agreement, Siemens Gamesa will be responsible for the construction, financing, and operation of the wind farm. The project is part of a structured plan to increase the share of renewable energy to 42 per cent by 2030 and 65 per cent by 2040. It also supports national efforts to boost clean energy adoption, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and lower carbon emissions.
Moreover, the project aligns with Egypt’s energy strategy, supporting the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy’s efforts to enhance the role of renewables in the country’s energy mix. It also aims to strengthen private sector partnerships and accelerate investments in solar and wind power.
