Egypt’ Sisi explores green hydrogen potential with IMO
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez, on Tuesday to explore collaboration on environmental sustainability, renewable energy, and maritime security.
Discussions highlighted Egypt’s efforts to become a global hub for green hydrogen production, aligning with the IMO’s efforts to promote alternative fuels for shipping. The meeting also addressed the transfer of expertise, investment facilitation in green hydrogen infrastructure, and support for developing countries’ ports and maritime routes.
The talks extended to the situation in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and strategies to restore security in this vital region, given its significant importance to international maritime trade routes. President Sisi emphasised the IMO’s role in fostering collaboration among global and regional stakeholders to restore stability in the area.
