Egyptian tycoon Mohamed Al-Fayed dies at 94

Egyptian billionaire and owner of the Paris Ritz Hotel Mohamed Al-Fayed died on Friday at the age of 94. Al-Fayed was born in Alexandria in 1929 to a middle-class family.

He married Samira Khashoggi in 1954 and they had their son Emad, known as Dodi. He owned the department store Harrods, which sold to Qatar in 2010 for $2.4 billion.

He also owned the Ritz Paris Hotel and Fulham Football Club, which sold to U.S. auto parts billionaire Shahid Khan in 2013 for an estimated $300 million.

Al-Fayed was known for his outspoken views and for criticising the British royal family amid the death of Diana and his son Dodi.

Dodi and Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997 which remains a mystery to this day.
